If you’re looking for an eco-friendly laundry detergent in Canada, you have two options.

You can create your own laundry cleaner or you can buy one from a company that sells eco-friendly laundry detergent strips.

Both of these options are good environmental choices because they eliminate the need to dispose of plastic jugs.

Shopping for Tru Earth

You can conveniently order Tru Earth laundry strips on Amazon.ca and you have the option of buying a one-time order or setting up a subscription for more savings.

You’ll protect the planet and save money on your household budget at the same time.

Next, I’ll address other eco-friendly laundry detergent strips available in Canada and why I choose Tru Earth.

Other Detergent Strips Available in Canada

If you do an online search, especially on Amazon.ca, you’ll likely find other eco-friendly laundry detergent strips that you can buy in Canada. And, they may even be cheaper per a load of laundry.

However, I did research and still choose to promote and support Tru Earth as our top choice for an eco-friendly laundry detergent.

Why I Recommend Tru Earth

The reason was a simple one. I could not find enough clear information about the other companies or the process for producing their laundry strips. It didn’t satisfy my questions about their products.

Tru Earth is Very Transparent

Knowing that Tru Earth is very transparent about their company and how their laundry strips are manufactured makes me feel more comfortable about the quality of the product and what they stand for in terms of the health of the environment.

Of course, the choice is definitely your own to make. And, I fully acknowledge that the other detergent strips still eliminate the use of plastic jugs.

But I wanted to clarify why I choose to recommend Tru Earth over the other choices available to Canadians.

Next, I’ve included a DIY laundry powder recipe if you prefer to go that route.

DIY Eco-Friendly Laundry Detergent

This recipe for a DIY laundry powder will help you keep your clothes clean and protect the environment.

Homemade Eco-Friendly Laundry Powder

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Grate the bar of castile soap as finely as you can.
  2. In a bowl, mix the grated soap with the baking and washing sodas.
  3. Put the mixture in a reusable storage container.
  4. You can use around 2 to 3 tablespoons for a load, adjusting for the size of the load.

Using a homemade laundry detergent and washing in cold water will go a long way to being eco-friendly with your laundry routine. After a few loads, you’ll figure out how much works best for your laundry.

Whether you have the time to make a DIY laundry detergent or choose to buy a commercial product from a company such as Tru Earth, you’ll be able to find an eco-friendly laundry detergent in Canada.

And, you can be confident that you’re putting the health of your family and the planet first with a green laundry routine.

  1. A very interesting and stimulating topic. I would certainly like to try the DIY recipe for eco-friendly laundry soap. However, it is not a guarantee that washing soda and castile soap bars are always easily available. At the same time, I believe the strips are very economical and less cumbersome as you can order them online by choosing from more than two options. This is indeed a creative and very timely innovation when we are all being encouraged to take more responsibility for the health of our environment which consequently impacts our own health. Kudos to Tru Earth Canadian Company for their eco-friendly laundry detergent strips. I am sure others will soon follow suit as we all seek to protect and restore our environment.

    1. Yes, for people who don’t want to make their own eco-friendly laundry soap, products such as those offered by Tru Earth are much more convenient and still better for the environment.

  2. I didn’t know that there were eco-friendly cleaners available. And with that many options.

I would prefer to buy one from a company that cares about the environment. I am looking for a company that has some great eco-friendly products. The Tru Earth company seems like a good choice for laundry detergent. They’ve developed strips that are packed in a sleeve. I also like their other environmentally-friendly products.

    1. Yes, if you’re going with a commercial natural detergent or cleaning product, a company like Tru Earth that has eco-friendly practices is a good choice. The more we do now to protect the planet, the better off the environment will be in the future. Reducing plastic from cleaning products is a great habit to start.

  3. I am a big believer in eco-friendly products and read this article with great interest. I think I will try to make my own laundry detergent if I can get the laundry soda and castile soap locally. But I’m also interested in the Tru Earth products. I’m just a little confused about how these laundry strips are used. I assumed they would dissolve in the water but you have a note that they are good for 3 years. Do the strips get reused or do you mean that they have a shelf life of 3 years?

    1. Yes, by 3 years, it means they have a shelf life of that long. The strips dissolve in water when you use them in the washer.

  4. The world is suffering because there are so many people who are so ignorant in their everyday lives with bad practices which harm our mother earth. I’m happy to see more and more companies such as Tru Earth innovating new eco-friendly ways in carrying out our daily lives. I have never actually tried a laundry strip before, it looks so interesting! I would love to try this out as it not only help save the environment, but it also helps that this is free of chlorine bleach, hypoallergenic (my hands are very sensitive) and they also don’t test on animals which I always hate to see when companies use those poor animals to test!

    1. Yes, the more companies that step up to create eco-friendly products, the better off we and the planet will be. Hopefully, it will be a snowball effect of more and more innovators taking over the market with sustainable products and practices.

  5. I’m liking this information about eco-friendly laundry detergent. I didn’t know there was such a thing for washing clothes and the Tru Earth detergent strips sound like a great idea. I’m pleased with the ingredients in the Tru Earth laundry strips. No bad chemicals like other commercial products. This is a must-have laundry detergent.

    1. Yes, these types of eco-friendly products are becoming more well-known and popular. Hopefully, one day, eco-friendly laundry detergent like Tru Earth will be the only option.

  6. I have never heard of TruEarth products. I will have to check them out. I’m very interested in making my own laundry soap. I have never heard of washing soda or castile soap bars. Is this something I need to order online, or is it something I can pick up at a store? Thanks for sharing this recipe, I am eager to give it a shot. Good luck in your future endeavors.

    1. Whether you can get the castile soap and washing soda at a local store will depend on where you live. They’re relatively easy to order online. Doing an online search will help with both options. If it turns out to be too inconvenient to make the DIY laundry detergent, you can always order a product like Tru Earth laundry strips that are very eco-friendly.

  7. The other day I was watching a documentary about the plastic waste that fills the oceans, by the tons! And the devastating effects on marine life.
It’s good to know that this sort of knowledge is slowly trickling down and making many businesses assess the eco-friendliness of their products.
I absolutely did not know there’s an eco-friendly laundry detergent, now I know and will make a point of trying this product out.

    1. Yes, businesses are catching on to the fact that consumers will support companies that take caring for our planet seriously. Tru Earth has made a great effort to reduce plastic waste and make laundry an eco-friendlier activity.

  8. Thanks for sharing this. I occasionally get to visit a wonderful natural lake in rural Ontario, Canada. The products that are allowed for residents on the lake must not contain any harmful ingredients that could disrupt the natural balance of the water and surrounding area. I like the sound of Tru Earth products and think that they would pass the test to be allowed on the lake – plus it’s perfect to support a Canadian company with the purchase of these products!

    1. That sounds like a wonderful experience and it’s a smart idea to protect the lake and surrounding area. This needs to be the norm everywhere.

  9. I am an organic and eco-friendly products preacher. Thank you for this article you have shared here, most especially for the eco-friendly laundry ingredients and the instructions. I have been buying organic ones, very pricy as well, so DIY is what I would opt for with the instructions here. I believe it would be cheaper for me since I do not live in Canada but in the United Kingdom.

There is nothing like an all-natural ingredients product. Thanks!

    1. Yes, even if you don’t live in Canada or want to buy ready-made eco-friendly laundry detergent, you can make a difference by making your own laundry detergent with environmentally-friendly ingredients. It all counts when it comes to protecting the planet.

  10. There are several things I like about this eco-friendly laundry detergent. The first is that they do not use perchloroethylene. They also use efficient machines both in water and energy use. And above all, they use soaps that are respectful towards our skin, and discharges to the environment are not as harmful as classic soaps.

    1. Yes, Tru Earth is a great company that takes caring for the environment seriously. Their products will go a long way toward reducing plastic, waste, and pollution.

  11. I think it’s so interesting the way cleaning chemicals can damage clothing, fabric; which leads to damaging the human body. This product sounds like it might be organic. I’m not knowledgeable about nutrients or science but it’s so good to see people care. I’m now motivated to buy an organic laundry detergent.

    1. You might want to check out the Tru Earth website. Their background and how they create their products are impressive. It’s obvious that they care about the environment and the health of the planet.

  12. I found this article very interesting.

I think that eco-friendly products are gaining more popularity every day. Especially it is important to find these products for the babies. Great instructions on how to make one. But I personally would prefer the option to actually buy one already pre-made don’t have time to make one.

    1. Yes, eco-friendly products are becoming essential to protect the health of the planet. And, Tru Earth does make it convenient to buy one such laundry detergent if you don’t have time to make one at home. They are certainly keeping a lot of plastic out of the environment.
